Formula Student Bizkaia

FORMULA STUDENT TEAM MEMBER
September 2017 - May 2018

During the final year of my Industrial Technology Engineering degree, I had the opportunity to be part of the Formula Student Bizkaia team, a project that significantly broadened my skill set across multiple areas, from design and structural analysis to business management and sponsorships.

In this team, I specialized in the unsprung mass, focusing on steering and brakes. Through this role, I gained advanced proficiency in CATIA V5 and performed structural analyses using ANSYS. I also actively participated in the manufacturing of automotive components in collaboration with various professional training centres, and I was directly involved in the assembly of some parts into the final prototype.

However, my contributions weren't limited to the technical domain. I was also part of the business team, where I worked on developing a product concept, presenting, and pitching it to potential sponsors. This process, conducted in English, simulated a real-world business environment and helped me refine my communication and persuasion skills. It also taught me how to effectively work within a team, adapt to rapidly changing conditions, and manage high-pressure situations.

Key Contributions:

  • Developed skills in automotive design and structural analysis with CATIA V5 and ANSYS.
  • Collaborated in the manufacturing and assembly of automotive parts, enhancing my practical knowledge of prototype development.
  • Participated in the business side of the project, pitching product concepts to sponsors, significantly improving my professional communication and negotiation abilities.

My experience with the Formula Student team not only honed my technical skills but also enhanced essential soft skills, such as teamwork, problem-solving, and business communication, which I consider fundamental to any professional in today's engineering industry.
